The negroni is a classic that doesn’t get old with age. It is a particular taste which is quite bitter so you may find it takes some getting used to. If you are looking to ease into this drink, you may want to try a negroni sbagliato first (see cook’s note).

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 ounce gin
  • 1 ounce campari
  • 1 ounce sweet red vermouth
  • slice of orange peel

INSTRUCTIONS

In a lowball glass filled with ice, simply stir together the gin, campari and vermouth. Twist the orange peel over the drink to release some of the oils and aroma and then drop into the drink. Enjoy!

COOK'S TIPS

For a slightly “lighter” version of a classic negroni, you can substitute the gin with a sparkling wine such as prosecco or champagne. This is known as a negroni sbagliato (or “mistaken” negroni).
